Art
Authors and artists are celebrated throughout the region. Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson represent the earliest writers. Stephen King’s horror, largely set in made up towns in Maine, is celebrated globally.
New England’s art scene is deep and varied. Provincetown, MA and Lyme, CT were centers for American Impressionism and modernist art, and artists colonies grew everywhere in the region. Some artists connected to New England and celebrated globally include Winslow Homer, James Whistler, Andrew Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, and Edward Hopper.
