Currier Museum of Art
Modern collection for all
It’s hard to imagine that two Frank Lloyd Wright homes and a delightful collection of work spanning the ancient period to Renaissance altarpieces to today could be found in Manchester, but the Currier Museum defies expectations.
Since 1929, on the eve of the Great Depression, this delightful museum opened its doors to make art available to all.
Within, the 15,000 piece permanent collection on display rotates, and includes works by, among many others, Picasso, Matisse, Manet, Sargent, O’Keefe, Basquiat, and Calder.
The contemporary collection is strong. Temporary exhibitions enhance the offerings connecting to the wider global art world.
A small cafe offers sandwiches, salads, and daily specials.
Tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes need to be booked in advance, but are worth the effort.
