Surprise! The Rhode Island School of Design has a museum focusing on historic art and design.
Seriously, though, holding over 100,000 works of art, the museum ciruclates its holdings in galleires dedicated to ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, the European Middle Ages, Asian Art and 19th-century American decorative art are in the collection.
Temporary exhibitions cover the gamut, from the design of tablewares to macrame to prints and photographs.
Look out for the Dale Chihuly’s Gilded Frost and Jet Chandelier, Dainichi Nyorai Buddha, Martin Rico y Ortega’s Fishermen's Houses Giudecca, and Japanese prints by Utagawa Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai.
