Shelburne Museum
Quirky Americana collection
Initially intended to perserve a family carriage collection, the Shelburne Museum grew to contain 39 exhibition buildings with over 150,000 works covering four centuries.
The impressionists are well represented, alongside a lot of Americana — folk art, quilts, toys, decoys, and that original carriage collection.
A highlight is Roy Arnold’s 525 feet of hand-carved wooden circus parade miniatures.
On site are a one-room schoolhouse and the 220‑foot steamboat Ticonderoga, a US National Historic Landmark.
From November until January, a winter lights show illuminates those evenings of winter darkness.
