Art & Culture

Provence has long been a favourite region with artists due to the quality of the light. Vincent Van Gogh produced some of his best work whilst in Arles and of course Paul Cézanne will forever be associated with Aix-en-Provence and the surrounding area. Henri Matisse (1869-1954) and Marc Chagall (1887-1985) both have Museums dedicated to them and located in Nice. Many others are associated with the area including Renoir, Picasso, Cocteau and Leger.

If you enjoy something a little more traditional there are the Baroque artworks and architecture in Cathedrals and many local churches, for example the Cathédrale Ste-Réparate in Vieux Nice. If this really inspires you, consider following the Route du Baroque itinerary around Nice.
