Maine (ME)
Lighthouses and lobster shacks are just the start of Maine’s offerings. Low-key towns along the coast range from chic to ramshackle, but the Atlantic’s relentless tides touches all. Craggy cliffsides and pebble beaches make for perfect views.
Hiking in Maine is epic, especially because it’s possible to climb the Appalachian Trail’s final peak Mt Katahdin in Baxter State Park. Perhaps you’ll catch sight of one of the state’s 30,000 moose.
For mountains without hiking, those who rise early shouldn’t miss sunrise at Cadillac Mountain. A car makes short work of a long hike up. Acadia National Park has excellent hiking for all levels.
