Northern Maine

Black Bear Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge

Heading north up the coast or into Maine’s interior can feel like entering another world — the sea gets rougher, the forests get bigger. This is the land of rugged country, mirrored lakes, and quiet towns.

Inland, Baxter State Park marks the end of the Appalachian Trail, while along the coast the Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world. Quoddy Head State Park is the easternmost point in the continental U.S.
