Acadia National Park
Rugged coastlines, heady pines
Acadia National Park is a rugged coastal treasure on Maine’s Mount Desert Island. Granite cliffs meet the wild Atlantic ocean, with ancient forests cloaking rolling hills and the mountains beyond.
Hikes
The park offers over 150 miles of trails for hikers of all levels. Gorham Mountain Trail is a favorite for families and beginners. Scale iron-rung ladders on trails like the Precipice or Beehive (not for the faint of vertigo). More relaxed wanderers can walk or paddle along Jordan Pond, where the water is so clear it looks Photoshopped. Sand Beach has clear water and great stargazing. Don’t skip the popovers at the Jordan Pond House —they’re practically a rite of passage.
