Scenic Drives
Americans love their cars and road trips are a favorite activity. State and national government have set up scenic drives that pass through regions to highlight cultural and natural wonders.
Scenic byways
Although slower than taking an interestate or a major highway, scenic byways are less-travelled and offer majestic seascapes, impressive rolling mountains, and plenty of stops.
One of the most popular scenic routes is the Kancamagus Scenic Byway through the White Mountains, but there are plenty of others.
Cape Cod has a designated National Scenic Byway called the Old King's Highway (Route 6A) that passes through seven towns, historic sites, and picturesque landscapes.
The Connecticut River Byway follows the Connecticut River through Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
Driving through Acadia National Park is another option for awe inspiring views from a car or bus.
