Cusco Cooking Schools
Cusco is an excellent place to do more than eat Peruvian food: you can learn to cook Peruvian food. Most cooking classes teach you how to make a pisco sour, ceviche as an appetizer and lomo saltado for the main course.
They all have non-alcoholic options for the pisco sour, so be sure to tell them ahead of time if you don’t drink pisco. However, substitutions for ceviche’s fish and lomo saltado’s beef are more complicated. Be sure to get confirmation ahead of time that they can accommodate modifications if you want vegetarian or vegan options.
All start with a fruit course to show you different kinds of fruits that are common in Cusco, above. Some fruits you may not find elsewhere are granadilla and tumbo, both kinds of passion fruit, and aguaymanto and pepino dulce, fruits related to the tomato.
Most cooking schools are near Plaza San Francisco and the San Pedro Market.
