Cusco-Manu Birdwatching
Most birders come to the Cusco region because it has more infrastructure for tourism, though the whole country is great for birding. One advantage to Cusco is that it has more tour companies and guides than anywhere else in Peru. Check my recommended Birding Tour Agencies.
Cusco is also uniquely placed between the lowland jungle of Manu and high Andean habitats, including cloud forests around Machu Picchu and Wayqecha. Linking them is the famous Manu Road, a major birding destination.
Also nearby is the Sacred Valley, with two excellent hummingbird gardens made by local families who replanted agricultural land with native flowers and trees to attract birds. Each is named after the hummingbird you’re almost guaranteed to see there: the Ensifera Gardens and the Bearded Mountaineer Lodge.
