Manu Road
Astounding biodiversity
The Manu Road links the South Valley near Cusco to district of Manu and the Manu National Park is one of Peru’s most popular birding locations because of the innumerable micro-climates it goes through.
Birders particularly zero in on the road between Abra Acjanaco pass at 3560m (11,680ft) above sea level, which descends to the village of Pilcopata at 650m (2,133ft). Every few kilometers you come to a new micro-climate, with changes in habitat and bird species.
The biggest draw of the Manu Road is the mixed flocks which commonly have several species of tanagers and other bird species together. This is one of the best places to see birds in natural habitat, without bird feeders.
