Grainger Town

Grainger Town is the central part of Newcastle with most of the main streets including Grey Street, Grainger Street and Clayton Street. Here you'll find the landmark Grey's Monument and the renowned Grainger Market not to mention the famed Bigg Market.

At the turn of the nineteenth century the area was in need of regeneration and the architect Richard Grainger together with his colleague John Dobson were tasked with rebuilding it.

The result which you see today is a fine town centre with outstanding architecture including many listed buildings and points of interest for the visitor.
