NEIGHBOURHOODS
Newcastle is blessed with several diverse neighbourhoods for the visitor to explore and appreciate.
First and foremost, and perhaps what most people identify with the City, is the Quayside with the River Tyne flowing under world-famous bridges. Grainger Town, boasting stunning early nineteenth century neo-classical architecture, comprises the City Centre. Many of Newcastle's most popular attractions are to be found in these two areas.
In the West of the City, the ancient stones of Blackfriars lie cheek by jowl with Newcastle's Chinatown at Stowell Street all enclosed by the Medieval West Walls built to defend the population against marauding Scotsmen!
Along the Quayside to the east of the City is the fashionable, and increasingly popular, Ouseburn neighbourhood which occupies the banks of the eponymous small river just before it flows into the mighty Tyne.
