Ouseburn

The Ouseburn is a small river flowing into the Tyne at the far eastern end of the Quayside. The river, which rises in the north of the City near Newcastle Airport, has given its name to the whole valley and Ouseburn has become one of the places to be in Newcastle during recent years.

Ouseburn Valley was the cradle of the industrial revolution in Newcastle due to its ideal location and access to the Tyne. Keels, or shallow draught barges, would load coal and manufactured goods like the pottery made at the Malings factory from here onto larger vessels waiting in the Tyne to be shipped around the world.

Now the haunt of professionals such as artists, musicians and designers, Ouseburn has become a creative hotspot, especially on Lime Street where, co-incidentally, you will find the famous Cluny pub, one of Newcastle's best music venues.
