Art & Architecture

Despite having a reputation in some circles for being a little culturally backward, Newcastle has in fact been an important cultural centre for more than 200 years.

This began with the establishment of the Lit & Phil or the Literary and Philosophical Society founded in 1793 and is the largest independent library outside of London.

Nowadays several fascinating museums, fine galleries, impressive theatres and a state-of-the-art music centre all ensure that there is always plenty to appreciate in Town!
