Hartford, CT

On the banks of the Connecticut River, Hartford is a pretty city with cultural capital.

In addition to containing the former homes of literary giants Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe, it also has the oldest US public museum of art — the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, and a vibrant arts scene in the Parkville neighbourhood.

To think, this was once dubbed the Insurance Capital of the World.
