Connecticut (CT)

Day 21 - Mystic Seaport

New Englanders like to complain Connecticut is just a posh commuter suburb of New York, but those commuters live here for a reason!

Connecticut contains the bucolic landscapes of Litchfield Hills, CT, a long history of invention and manufacturing, culturally-engaged New Haven and heady Yale, and of course, figures rather famously in many fictional worlds.

Lights, Camera, Connecticut

Take a deep breath Gilmore Girls fans. Stars Hollow doesn’t exist. Fortunately, the whimsical small town is based on Washington in the Litchfield Hills. Leigh Bardugo’s Ninth House series takes place at academic powerhouse Yale University and Mystic’s most famous restaurant is the setting of Julia Robert’s Mystic Pizza. Mark Twain penned A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court at his home – now the Mark Twain House and Museum – in Hartford. The fictional town of iconic horror film the Stepford Wives is based on places in Fairfield County.
