Eat Azcapotzalco & Colonia Tránsito

These two residential areas seldom see tourists but are well worth visiting for anyone looking to eat like a local. In the quiet middle-class Azcapotzalco neighborhood, enjoy traditional Mexican cuisine at Nicos, then grab some drinks in El Dux de Venecia, an atmospheric century-old cantina in the borough’s city center. In Colonia Tránsito, a fairly safe working-class neighborhood, El Gran Abanico slings some of the best carnitas in town.

Nicos

Under-the-radar Mexican cuisine (b,l,d; $$$)

Taquería El Gran Abanico

Arguably the city's best carnitas (b,l; $)
