Shinjuku 新宿 & Around

Top nightlife, entertainment & shopping district

Shinjuku

The areas around the world’s busiest station - well over 2 million pass through Shinjuku station each day! - is a must visit. There are large business, entertainment and shopping areas all around the station.

A dozen railway and subway lines pass through. Shinjuku is on the western side of the JR Yamanote Line loop line.

Don’t miss -

Kabukichō - Japan's largest and wildest red light district to the northeast of the station.

Free observation decks - the skyscraper district to the west of the station boasts many of Tōkyō's tallest buildings, including the 243m twin towers of the Metropolitan Government Office; its observation decks are open to the public for free.

Department stores, subterranean malls and electronic shops surround Shinjuku Station on all four sides, including the redeveloped Southern Terrace.
