Backcountry camping

You haven’t truly experienced the Grand Canyon until you’ve looked upward to see the rim. The three corridor campgrounds and primitive camping zones along the main cross-canyon trails and 29 designated areas along lesser-used trails, will give you the signature wilderness experience of the West.

Advance Reservations

But you have to plan ahead. Download a permit and fax to 928-638-2125 any day 24/7. Or mail it to Grand Canyon National Park, Permits Office, 1824 S. Thompson St., Suite 201, Flagstaff AZ, 86001.

Last-minute permits

A few walkup permits are given one day in advance for the Indian Garden Campground, Bright Angel Campground, and the Cottonwood Campground.

Designated campgrounds have 2-day stay limit in summer, 4 days in winter (Nov.–March).
