Accra Beach

Buzzing spot (aka Rockley Beach)

Heading east out of the city, the first main stretch of sand is Accra Beach (also known as Rockley Beach) (pictured above).

It’s a busy place, beside the main road, with a car park stuffed full of kiosks, selling drinks and beachwear. There are also sun-loungers and umbrellas for rent and plenty of places to eat and drink nearby, including the very popular Tiki Bar, which overlooks a sheltered swimming area.

The beach’s west end is the endpoint of the South Coast boardwalk (above). At sunrise and sundown, this mile-long coastal promenade is abuzz with joggers, dog-walkers, families, young couples and strolling tourists.

By bus: To/from Fairchild St Bus Station, Bridgetown, blue buses #12A and #12D stop here. So too does the zippy ZR #11 (from outside Constitution River Terminal).

There’s a car park for self-drivers.
