South Coast Beaches

The South Coast boasts beaches for every occasion.

For the liveliest vibe, it’s hard to beat Accra. Bang on the main road, it is thronging with tourists and Bajan families alike at weekends in high season, thanks to its easy access, sheltered swimming and varied eating and drinking options. In contrast, in tourist-filled St Lawrence Gap, expansive Dover Beach, is remarkably uncrowded, and the mood chilled, with holidaymakers stretched out on sun-loungers.

For a less touristy, family-oriented scene, try Miami Beach, near Oistins, which offers shady picnic tables and sheltered swimming whereas nearby Freight’s Bay marks the start of of a string of beaches dedicated to adrenaline water sports. Surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing enthusiasts head for the breezy, near-deserted strands of Silver Sands & Long Beach.
