Uncle Joe's
Fresh fish & sea views (l,d; $–$$)
A rustic raised wooden deck in Bathsheba, across from the park, overlooking the giant mushroom boulder and the foaming surf, Uncle Joe’s could scarcely ask for a better view.
Although the vibe is of an upmarket rum shop, the food is more in line with the “seaside bar and grill” sub-heading, squarely aimed at tourists, ex-pats and the Barbadian middle-classes, rather than at the locals of Bathsheba.
It’s the perfect pitstop on a tour of the East Coast, be it for a beer, a snack or lunch. The menu is slim – cutters, burgers, pepperpot and pan-seared fish cover most of it – but the food comes hot off the grill, especially the fish.
Service can take a while when the place gets busy, but the rum punch and rum sour slip down a treat in the meantime, and the beer is nicely chilled.
