Science & Local History Museum (Free)
A fascinating science and local history museum based in the former premises of the Co-operative Wholesale Society.
The entrance hall is dominated by the Tyne built H.M.S.Turbinia which was once the fastest ship in the world and the first to powered by steam turbine.
Beyond this the building has a multitude of local history exhibits from Roman Times through to the mid twentieth century plus plenty of interactive displays to keep young (and not so young!) children amused.
