Lobster & whale souvenirs galore
Tiny seaside town Bar Harbor sure knows how to bring in tourists — it’s been doing so since the 18th century with the Rusticators, New Yorkers and Bostonians who sought to escape summer heat by renting space in the homes of locals.
In the 19th century, America’s wealthiest got wind of the place and turned Bar Harbor into a grand resort complete with mansions and old majestic hotels.
Today it’s the launch point of many outdoor adventures and a place to pick up some $ouvenir$ featuring lobsters, whales, and buoys.
Get out to sea
The stunning coastline beckons the curious and experienced to sea kayaking is popular.
Bar Harbor is a good place to join a bird or whale watching cruise. Another option that’s great for kids is the Dive-In Theatre with Diver Ed. Watch from a monitor as Ed narrates the creatures he encounters on his deep sea dives. If money is no object, charter a boat.
