1669–1912: Alaouite

The current king’s family, the Alaouites, took Marrakesh in 1669. It was never their capital. None the less, towards the end of the nineteenth century in particular, a number of impressive palatial mansions were built in the city.
Nineteenth-century mansions which can be visted include the Bahia Palace, and Dar Mnebhi, which houses the Marrakesh Museum, and Dar Si Said.
The next era: 1912–56: The French
