Coconino National Forest

Summer Wildflowers east of the Peaks

Spreading out in every direction from Flagstaff, the Coconino National Forest is a summer and winter playground where you shouldn't be short of ideas for outdoor adventures – and most are an easy day-trip from the city.

Scenic backroads lead to fishing lakes and trails for hiking, biking, and horse riding that explore the highest peaks in the state, towering ponderosa forests, mountain meadows, and shoe-slicing lava flows.

Coconino is also the home of the Arizona Snowbowl, an all-season mountain resort among the San Francisco Peaks.

Also in the vicinity of the city and bordering Coconino National Forest lands are three exceptional National Monuments which highlight the geology and human history of the area.
