See the Coconino National Forest with your windows open and foot on the brake. You don’t want to hurry on these day-trips with some of the best scenic vistas around Flagstaff, open May through November.

On all roads you’ll find wildflowers in spring, mountain meadows in the summer, and golden slopes in the fall. Pack a picnic, hike or bike one of the many trails, enjoy the beauty of nature. .

Around the Peaks

The 44-mile Around the Peaks loop circles San Francisco Peaks, Arizona’s highest mountains, winding through pine forests, aspen groves, open prairies, and rustic homesteads.

Two options allow you to vary this loop a little:

  • The Schultz Pass Rd. (26 mi.) is an ideal route to look for elk, mule deer and spectacular fall displays of colorful aspens.
