Williams

###Route 66 still lives
Named for the famous scout and mountain man, Old Bill Williams, the town of Williams came into existence in 1881, boomed with saloons and brothels during the railroad days, and later thrived as a stopover on Route 66, then almost died in 1984 when I-40 bypassed it. Now with old Route 66 attractions revived and prospering and the Grand Canyon Railway offering daily trips to the national park, Williams once again gives visitors plenty of reasons to stay over.
In Town
Besides all the made-in-Asia souvenir shops, galleries with Southwest and Indian art (and faux art), boutiques, and burger joints, you can browse an authentic western store (Western Outfitters & DeBerge Saddlery), chat up the barkeep and shoot pool with the locals at an old-timed cowboy-biker saloon (World Famous Sultana Bar), and enjoy a bust-a-gut breakfast with homemade pie at a classic restaurant (Pine Country Restaurant).
