Dispersed Camping

Primitive camping in National Forests

This app covers the Coconino National Forest with USFS maintained Flagstaff Area Campgrounds, and the Kaibab National Forest with USFS Williams Area Campgrounds, and with North Rim Campgrounds on the north side of the park. Both forests allow primitive camping within designated corridors outside the maintained campgrounds, but with conditions and precautions.

Generally you must be 1/4-mile from a road, spring or water tank, or meadow. Either walk in or drive no more than 1/4-mile off-road. ALWAYS be aware of campfire restrictions.

For Coconino National Forest, you can download maps for GPS, mobile devices, PDF, and hard copies. Call (928) 527-3600 for a free hard copy Motor Vehicle Use Map.
