Tuweep (Toroweap)

Remote beauty

With towering, 3,000-foot cliffs, Toroweap is one of the most remote and spectacular viewpoints in the park. The three 60-mile, primitive roads to Tuweep/Toroweap Overlook and free campground (9 sites, 1 group site, no water or facilities) require high clearance and good tires.

Allow 2-3 hours of rugged driving over sharp rocks and washboard ruts. Breakdown and a tow truck costs $1,000-$2,000. The roads leave from Hwy 389 west of Fredonia and from Colorado City and St. George, Utah. A backcountry camping permit is required. Download a PDF of the Tuweep Bulletin for info and road directions. Always get road conditions before traveling on backcountry roads.
