Powell Point
Memorial to explorer
The stone memorial commemorates the 1869 and 1871-72 exploratory trips down the Colorado River by Major John Wesley Powell and his expedition crews.
The view commemorates the creative power of erosion, uplift, and a down-cutting river. Be inspired and let the creative force within express itself. Do a little dance, sing a song, write a poem, take a photograph.
From here west to Monument Creek Vista, 3.1 miles, the paved trail turns to a 3-ft.-wide dirt path. Powell Point east to Maricopa Point: .5 mile Powell Point west to Hopi Point: .3 mile
