Cycling

Walkhampton Common, Dartmoor

The south west’s superb cycling includes former railway lines that are now bike-friendly paths.

These off-road tracks often wind through remote scenery – highlights include Cornwall’s Camel Trail and Dartmoor’s Granite Way and Princetown Railway routes.

Some trails even see you cycling on bridlepaths that cross open moorland – the Princetown & Burrator ride is one.

Swarms of road cyclists head for the smooth tarmac undulating across Dartmoor and Exmoor. It takes in some Tour of Britain hill climbs.
