It is in Dubrovnik & Around that many of Croatia’s strands come together, with tons of art, architecture and history augmenting the simple joy of being in of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful cities. As well as boasting a handful of beaches, it also served as a key location in fantasy series Game of Thrones.
Nature lovers will be bowled over by the Plitvice Lakes National Park, which offers a perfect day’s hiking as well as constituting an outstanding family outing. Other family-friendly spots include the Krka National Park, and the fortress-girdled city of Šibenik.
Summer visitors will inevitably gravitate towards Croatia’s Beaches, which come in many shapes and sizes - although the spit of shingle known as Zlatni rat on the island of Brač is the best known.
For those in search of something a bit more strenuous, Outdoor Sports including sea kayaking, paddle-boarding and windsurfing are among the most popular activities on the beaches and islands of Dalmatia.
As you would expect from a capital city, Zagreb is big on history museums, art galleries and festivals. It is also home to some wonderful parks and gardens, and the World War II memorial site at Dotrščina Memorial Park.
