Stubb's

‘Cue and Tunes (l,d; $$)

The Revivalists at Stubb's Austin

Christopher “Stubb” Stubblefied managed to cook his way from Lubbock, through the Korean War, and smack into the center of the thriving music scene in 1970s Austin. Combining two loves, BBQ and music, Stubb’s was soon booking major talent to play alongside his slow cooking ‘cue.

For my dad's last night in Austin, we went to Stubb's.

These days, Stubb’s remains a homegrown Austin favorite, though a more commercial and streamlined version, selling BBQ sauce in a bottle, and drawing big name bands to its outdoor amphitheater, a nationally-known, must-play venue.
