Science & Technology

Railway Engine, Science and Technology Gallery, National Museum of Scotland

Scotland has had more than its share of great thinkers and innovators, with dozens of inventions credited to Scots. So it's only fair that the country also has a few museums to celebrate this as well as science in general.

Some like Glasgow Science Centre, or Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, are pitched squarely at kids. Others are more about nostalgia or providing a place to marvel at the inventions of yesterday.

Trains

Glasgow's Riverside Museum of Transport is particularly impressive, with a broad collection that includes quite a few steam trains, though none is as much fun as a riding the Jacobite Steam Train. Crathes Castle also has a (less impressive) steam train.
