Art

Art lovers will find plenty to enjoy in Scotland's biggest cities, and be delighted to discover that entry to almost all the collections is free.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh can boast three important museums: the National Gallery, with its heavyweight old masters; the National Portrait Gallery, with its more regional focus; and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art which spreads over two huge buildings just outside the city centre.
Glasgow
Glasgow's art collection is no less impressive, but more disparate and organised across a multitude of smaller venues. The Kelvingrove is key, but it's collection a real hotch-potch; the small Gallery of Modern Art (or GoMA) is also great, if a little unpredictable, thanks to its emphasis on temporary exhibitions. Meanwhile, some distance outside the city centre, Pollock Park contains the unmissable Burrell Collection, an extraordinary global art collection amassed by a wealthy industrialist who later gifted it all to the city.
