Brüning Museum
Photographer & collector

The National Archeological Brüning Museum was the first regional archeological museum, opened in 1921. Most artifacts and photographs were owned by Hans Heinrich Brüning, a photographer and collector.
While the gold and silver artifacts, original ceramics and stone objects are all interesting, they’re not very different from what you see in Chiclayo’s other museums, or in Lima’s Museo Larco or Cusco’s Museo de Arte Precolombino.
What sets this museum apart are the historic photos, especially of local people in the early 1900s. In the one above, Hans himself is among a family dressed in their Sunday best.
If you’re going to the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, which is just a few blocks away, take at least an hour to see the Brüning Museum, also.
