Arequipa & The Southern Coast

Candelabra Paracas

Most people fly to Arequipa from Lima or Cusco to start their adventures in the city, the surrounding volcanoes, Colca Canyon or to drive two hours to the coast.

If you’d rather drive south from Lima, stop first in Ica, famous for wine and the eponymous drink of the town of Pisco. Nearby, Paracas has the Ballestas Islands, sometimes compared to a miniature Galápagos.

The Nazca lines are by far the most famous archeological site and you can see them in a flyover from the town of Pisco or Nazca’s own tiny airstrip.

Transport

Many busses that run here south from Lima. The major airports are in Arequipa and Tacna.
