Exhibition Park & The Town Moor
A park for an Exhibition & a Moor for Freemen!
Located in the north of the city and accessed from Claremont Road, the Exhibition Park, created for Queen Victoria's Jubilee Exhibition in 1887, is a great place for all the family. Test your skills on the tennis courts, the croquet lawns or the crazy golf course or maybe just enjoy a picnic!
The Park is laid out in the south eastern corner of the vast Town Moor, an area of common land on which Freemen of the City have the right to graze their cattle. The Town Moor, which is bigger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined, was created in the 12th century and is virtually treeless with paths for walking.
The Exhibition park itself has a playground and a boating lake and a military museum where for many years the Turbinia - see the Discovery Museum - was kept.
