Restaurants
New Zealand has developed a strong foodie scene of late, and with the abundance of fresh produce, local meats and seafood, there are excellent restaurants throughout the country, particularly in the big cities.
Immigration has produced a local fusion of international styles that has been dubbed “Modern NZ”, meaning an inventive mix of everywhere.
Many Kiwis avidly watch view MasterChef New Zealand and MasterChef Australia and can be demanding diners when heading out to top-class restaurants.
Cafe or Restaurant?
This is somewhat fuzzy in New Zealand. Places that may be considered as a cafe during the day - and even have the word cafe in their name - may well turn into a town’s top restaurant at night. Don’t forget to check out our Cafes & Pubs page.
