Becky’s Diner, Portland
5am fisherman’s breakfast (b,l,d; $$)
American diners are a cultural institution and Becky’s has been putting breakfast into the bellies of lobstermen and fishermen since 1991.
Shoulder in at the stools by the counter, or slide into a booth for generous portions and an equally generously sized menu.
The restaurant sources locally. For breakfast, try the blueberry pancakes - Maine’s low-bush blueberries are famous for their flavor.
The hash hits all the feels. For lunch, fried haddock or clams and especially clam chowder.
The club sandwich with buttermilk fried chicken is also delicious.
