Sally’s, Modern, and Frank Pepe’s are the holy trinity of New Haven pizza (or apizza as it is better known by locals).
Competition is fierce to be the best. In particular, the New Haven, thin, flat-crusted, coal-fired brick oven pizza originated at Frank Pepe’s.
The original tomato pie uses grated pecorino, while those feeling adventuresome should try white clam. Salads and deserts also available.
While some prefer Frank Pepe’s, Sally’s and Modern have fierce devotees. Pizza lovers can decide for themselves.
