Desserts & Sweet Treats

Doughnuts

In a region where sugar literally flows from the trees, it’s hardly surprising that locals have developed a sweet tooth.

Ice Cream

While you’ll find the whole range of desserts in New England, the combination of many Italian immigrants and prime dairy farming country have combined to make ice cream a major speciality.

Ice cream connoisseurs exploring Boston will want to check out the Ice Cream Museum in Boston Seaport; Toscanini’s near MIT in Cambridge, MA and Emack & Bolio’s on Newbury Street.

Donuts

Another big deal are donuts, particularly the seasonal Cider Donuts though many towns have a local favorite or three, like Congdon’s Doghnuts. Another beloved bakery product that has a claim on the hearts of New Englanders is the Whoopie Pies.
