Musée de la Palmeraie

Small modern art collection & cactus garden - متحف النخيل

Marrakesh Palmery

The Musée de la Palmeraie (Palmery Museum), in an old farmstead and its grounds, has a cactus garden and a small collection of local modern art, with abstract and naive paintings, including some based on Arabic calligraphy, plus a few sculptures.

Thanks to its location out in the Palmery, the Musée de la Palmeraie is a lot quieter than most Marrakesh attractions, and you’ll probably have the place to yourselves.

The Musée de la Palmeraie is situated just off the Route de Fès in a neighbourhood called Dar Tounsi, which is a bit of a detour from the Circuit de la Palmeraie. A cab from town should cost about 40dh on the meter (which you may have difficulty persuading drivers to use for a trip out here), and if you want to go straight back the same way, you should ask the driver to wait for you. You should also call ahead to check that the museum’s open, as it has a habit of closing unexpectedly.
