Okayama 岡山

Home to Kōrakuen, one of ‘Three Great Gardens’

Okayama Korakuen

The capital of Okayama Prefecture, Okayama city is worth a stop to visit Kōrakuen, one of Japan's Sanmeien, the ‘three great gardens’. It’s located next to the reconstructed Okayama Castle.

Okayama, with its own shinkansen station, is where you’ll change trains if you’re using your JR Pass to head over the Seto Ōhashi Bridge to Shikoku by rail.

This is also where to change trains if taking the Shikoku Kisen ferry from Uno to the ‘art island’ of Naoshima in the Inland Sea. Take the JR Uno line from Okayama station to Uno Port, then hop on the ferry.

Finally, if you are in the region in early-Februrary, then don’t miss the fascinating Hadaka Matsuri 裸祭り!
