Takamatsu 高松

Legendary ‘Sanuki udon’ noodles

Takamatsu

The capital of Japan's smallest prefecture, Kagawa, Takamatsu was the main port of entry for Shikoku until the opening of the Seto Ōhashi Bridge in 1988.

The port area, now known as Sunport Takamatsu, has undergone a huge facelift of late and these days, many foreign visitors arrive from or are on their way to the ‘art island’ of Naoshima by ferry.

The city has a lively set of shopping arcades and entertainment district.

The Japanese-style landscaped garden, Ritsurin-kōen is known throughout the country.

With Kagawa Prefecture nicknamed udon-ken, you’ll find a Sanuki-udon noodle shop on almost every corner.
