Tourist Information

Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO)

JC at Matsumoto Station

Most cities and towns will have a tourist office (観光案内所 - kankō annai-jō) at their train station, with good signage to find it - and probably with an English-speaker or two on hand. Many places offer free wi-fi, toilets, access to rental bicycles and possibly luggage storage.

The Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO) has over 1500 certified Tourist Information Centers around Japan - find them all over the country on the map.

If you don’t have pre-booked accommodation, the tourist information office will often help find you a place to stay.

JNTO also runs a Japan Visitor Hotline 24/365. Call for tourist information or in the case of accidents and emergencies.

There are numerous volunteer goodwill guide groups around Japan who will guide you around their local area or attractions at no cost to you - though most require advance notice.
