Hiking
For the signature Canyon experience take a hike. From a distance, the Grand Canyon inspires, but up close and personal, it will imprint your mind and muscle memory for the rest of your life.
Hike smart, know the hazards
Hit the trails before dawn and always follow the park guidelines. Over 250 people a year don’t and require emergency evacuation. Summer hiking can kill, literally. Descending from rim-top forest to Sonora Desert at the river in the summer, expect a 20-30 degree increase in temperature (80 to 100+ F.). You’ll need 1/2 quart of water and electrolytes per hour on the trail and twice your normal calories.
